4 Emergency Planning Essentials

Emergency planning is extremely important but often overlooked. Being succifienctly prepared in the face of a disaster or emergency can truly make the difference between life and death.

Here are 4 Emergency Planning Essentials:

1. Emergency Phone Numbers

You should have both a written and digital copy of all essential emergency phone numbers, including fire, police, and EMS, as well as immediate family members. You may or may not have access to your mobile phone during an emergency so having a written back up is important. Commit as many of these phone numbers to memory as you can. Keeping a landline active is recommended as well.

2. Store Water & Food

During and after a disaster, you may have no external access to food or clean water. You should try to have at least 2 weeks to 30 days worth of food and water readily accessible for you and your family.

3. Prepare A Go-Bag

Every family member should have a Go-Bag ready. If you have to evacuate your home at a moments notice, your Go-Bag should have all your essentials and well as food and water. You may want to have copies of important documents in your Go-Bag too.

4. Escape Routes & Meeting Places

It is imperative that every family member knows an escape route from each room in your home. You should also have a designated meeting place where everyone will meet after an emergency.
